AMT CELEBRATES 60 YEARS!

With the solicitation of $10 donations from people and businesses, AMT raised the money to pay the rent and royalties on our first show, Guys and Dolls, in August 1958. Along with this effort, there were more excited people working with sets, costumes and music…

Fast Forward 60 Years and AMT is still running strong!  The organization brings together community members from Alamogordo, Holloman, Tularosa and Cloudcroft. AMT is committed to creating a voice for diverse artists, to nurturing their unique voices, and to engaging our audiences. In addition, the proceeds from AMT shows go to area students who are pursuing collegiate studies in the arts.

Coming this month, AMT presents “STAGE AND SCREEN: 60 YEARS of AMT”.  AMT has resolved to put on a fabulous night of music, song and dance! Featuring current and former members of the organization, “STAGE AND SCREEN” spotlights music from many popular musicals and movies. SHREK AUDITIONS DRAW NEAR!

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.

Full of all-new songs and great dancing , SHREK, THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!

Auditions for the show will be April 30th and May 3rd at 6:30 PM at the Flickinger Center! All roles are open to audition. We are seeking an adult ensemble of 20-30 performers for this high-spirited production. There are five principal roles available (three men / two women) as well as numerous featured supporting roles and a large singing, dancing ensemble. A limited amount of roles will be available for children as well.

After playing to three different raucous crowds last weekend, the Alamogordo Music Theatre’s cast of the Rocky Horror Show is reinvigorated for this, their final weekend!

This Friday and Saturday, November 10 & 11, AMT will continue to captivate the crowds of the die hard Rocky Horror Show fans out there in Alamogordo as well as those new to the Rocky experience! The show blends film genre tropes such as science-fiction, Gothic fantasy and horror in a mishmash of styles that pokes fun at the B-movies of the 1950’s.  The production boasts a great rock and roll score with songs like “Science Fiction, Double Feature”, “Damn it, Janet” and the iconic piece “The Time Warp”.

Don’t wait to purchase your tickets! All seats are twelve dollars and the productions will be at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Pizza Mill and Sub Factory, Books Revisited in the White Sands Mall and at the Flickinger. ROCKY HORROR OPENS! TWO SHOWS TONIGHT!!

AMT’s fall production of The Rocky Horror Show opened last night to an insane crowd! The cast and audience alike were eating up the magnificent energy that was created by the cult classic.

In the four decades since it debuted, The Rocky Horror Show has become the archetype for fun, marked by weekly or monthly interactive viewings in theatres across the country. For the Rocky “Virgins” out there, these productions usually involve a series of callbacks that audience members shout along with or in response to many of the original show’s scripted lines.

Last night was no different! Supplemented by AMT’s prop bags, that were available for purchase in the lobby, the audience got to be right in the thick of the plot: the story of a young couple – Brad (Daniel Humm) and Janet (Stacy Beaupre) – who end up at the mysterious castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Lee Austin).  The night takes many twists and turns, throwing them into a world unlike any they have ever known. Unfortunately for them, this evening out is destined to be one they will never forget!

Tonight, there will be two shows for your enjoyment, a traditional 7PM production for the early birds out there AND A MIDNIGHT SHOW for you true die hard Rocky Horror fans! All seats are twelve dollars and both productions will be at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Pizza Mill and Sub Factory, Books Revisited in the White Sands Mall and at the Flickinger. Follow this link to buy your tickets online from the Flickinger website!

A fast-paced pastiche of camp, science fiction, rock music, horror, and more camp The Rocky Horror Show is a fun adult night out that Alamogordo residents will not soon forget! We will see you tonight!
