ROCKY HORROR OPENS! TWO SHOWS TONIGHT!!

AMT’s fall production of The Rocky Horror Show opened last night to an insane crowd! The cast and audience alike were eating up the magnificent energy that was created by the cult classic.

In the four decades since it debuted, The Rocky Horror Show has become the archetype for fun, marked by weekly or monthly interactive viewings in theatres across the country. For the Rocky “Virgins” out there, these productions usually involve a series of callbacks that audience members shout along with or in response to many of the original show’s scripted lines.

Last night was no different! Supplemented by AMT’s prop bags, that were available for purchase in the lobby, the audience got to be right in the thick of the plot: the story of a young couple – Brad (Daniel Humm) and Janet (Stacy Beaupre) – who end up at the mysterious castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Lee Austin).  The night takes many twists and turns, throwing them into a world unlike any they have ever known. Unfortunately for them, this evening out is destined to be one they will never forget!

Tonight, there will be two shows for your enjoyment, a traditional 7PM production for the early birds out there AND A MIDNIGHT SHOW for you true die hard Rocky Horror fans! All seats are twelve dollars and both productions will be at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Pizza Mill and Sub Factory, Books Revisited in the White Sands Mall and at the Flickinger. Follow this link to buy your tickets online from the Flickinger website!

A fast-paced pastiche of camp, science fiction, rock music, horror, and more camp The Rocky Horror Show is a fun adult night out that Alamogordo residents will not soon forget! We will see you tonight!

ROCKY HORROR AUDITIONS ON THE HORIZON

Are you ready to do the Time Warp again? Well, the Alamogordo Music Theatre is pleased to announce the auditions for their fall musical “The Rocky Horror Show”!  After a successful run of the musical “Hairspray”, AMT is following the achievement with the retro sci-fi musical classic!

One fateful night, Brad Majors and his fiancée, Janet Weiss — a wholesome, well-behaved, utterly normal young couple in love — innocently set out to visit an old professor. Unfortunately for them, this night out is destined to be one they will never forget. A thunderstorm and a flat-tire force them to seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter, a scientist with a manic genius and insatiable libido. Brad, Janet, and Frank’ N’ Furter’s cohorts are swept up into the scientist’s latest experiment. The night’s misadventures will cause Brad and Janet to question everything they’ve known about themselves, each other, love, and lust. A loving homage to the classic B sci-fi film and horror genres with an irresistible rock’n’roll score, The Rocky Horror Show is a hilarious, wild ride that no audience will soon forget.

Auditions will be held at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts on August 22nd and 24th at 6:00PM. Please anticipate to sing a song that showcases your vocal abilities. Only those with prepared music will be considered for major roles.  You will also need to read a short selection from the show that will be provided by the casting committee. You can access a list roles and ranges here.

Please remember, this is a live stage production of Rocky Horror, not a movie sing-a-long. Though aspects of the movie “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be included in the production, the people cast in the show will be doing a completely live theatrical creation.

We look forward to seeing you at the Flickinger for another amazing AMT show!

HAIRSPRAY BLASTS OFF THIS WEEKEND

The Alamogordo Music Theatre is pleased to announce the arrival of our summer musical “Hairspray”!  The production opens Friday, August 4th and continues on August 5, 11 and 12 at 7PM and August 6th at 2PM at the Flickinger Center!

“Hairspray”, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire – to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob, Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do!

Tickets are $12 dollars and can be purchased at the Flickinger Center, The Pizza Mill and Sub Factory or from any cast member. Remember, proceeds from the production help fund scholarships for area students going into the arts! Helping with education and taking in a dynamic show, two great reasons to see “Hairspray”! It all starts tonight at the Flick! See you there!

HAIRSPRAY OPENS AUGUST 4TH!

The Alamogordo Music Theatre is anxiously awaiting it’s AUGUST 4th OPENING of the dynamic Broadway musical “HAIRSPRAY”!

When she manages to win a spot on the show, she becomes an overnight celebrity and meets a colorful array of characters.

“Hairspray” opened on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score. The London production won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. In addition to national and international tours, the show was adapted into a 2007 film with John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky and Zac Efron.

The AMT production features many local talents, including Katie Babbitt as Tracy, Jacob Powers as Link Larkin, Kyra Zartner as Amber Von Tussell, Katie Calentine as Penny Pingleton and David Johnson as Seaweed. Among other featured roles include Zack Miller as Corny Collins, Joanna Conley as MotorMouth Maybelle, Hillary Marshall as Velma Von Tussell and Tyler Hutchins as Edna Turnblad.

“I  am so excited for  this show!” says director Stacy Zevetchin “This uber talented cast is ready to entertain  the community with great dances, songs, and comedy.  They have been working non stop to present a truly fabulous show, that competes with the pros.”

The score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman showcases ’60s dance music and rhythm and blues selections. It includes the numbers “Good Morning, Baltimore,” “The Nicest Kids in Town” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”

Hairspray will open on August 4th with performances following on August 5, 11 and 12 at 7PM at the Flickinger Center. There will be a 2PM matinee on August 6. Tickets are currently available at the Flickinger Center, the Pizza Mill and Sub Factory or from any cast member.
