ROCKY HORROR AUDITIONS ON THE HORIZON

Are you ready to do the Time Warp again? Well, the Alamogordo Music Theatre is pleased to announce the auditions for their fall musical “The Rocky Horror Show”!  After a successful run of the musical “Hairspray”, AMT is following the achievement with the retro sci-fi musical classic!

One fateful night, Brad Majors and his fiancée, Janet Weiss — a wholesome, well-behaved, utterly normal young couple in love — innocently set out to visit an old professor. Unfortunately for them, this night out is destined to be one they will never forget. A thunderstorm and a flat-tire force them to seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank ’N’ Furter, a scientist with a manic genius and insatiable libido. Brad, Janet, and Frank’ N’ Furter’s cohorts are swept up into the scientist’s latest experiment. The night’s misadventures will cause Brad and Janet to question everything they’ve known about themselves, each other, love, and lust. A loving homage to the classic B sci-fi film and horror genres with an irresistible rock’n’roll score, The Rocky Horror Show is a hilarious, wild ride that no audience will soon forget.

Auditions will be held at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts on August 22nd and 24th at 6:00PM. Please anticipate to sing a song that showcases your vocal abilities. Only those with prepared music will be considered for major roles.  You will also need to read a short selection from the show that will be provided by the casting committee. Please remember, this is a live stage production of Rocky Horror, not a movie sing-a-long. Though aspects of the movie “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be included in the production, the people cast in the show will be doing a completely live theatrical creation.

HAIRSPRAY OPENS AUGUST 4TH!

The Alamogordo Music Theatre is anxiously awaiting it’s AUGUST 4th OPENING of the dynamic Broadway musical “HAIRSPRAY”!

Based on the 1988 movie written and directed by John Waters, the show takes audiences back to Baltimore of the 1960s, where plus-size teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on “The Corny Collins Show,” a TV dance program. When she manages to win a spot on the show, she becomes an overnight celebrity and meets a colorful array of characters.

“Hairspray” opened on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score. The London production won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. In addition to national and international tours, the show was adapted into a 2007 film with John Travolta, Nikki Blonsky and Zac Efron.

The AMT production features many local talents, including Katie Babbitt as Tracy, Jacob Powers as Link Larkin, Kyra Zartner as Amber Von Tussell, Katie Calentine as Penny Pingleton and David Johnson as Seaweed. Among other featured roles include Zack Miller as Corny Collins, Joanna Conley as MotorMouth Maybelle, Hillary Marshall as Velma Von Tussell and Tyler Hutchins as Edna Turnblad.

“I  am so excited for  this show!” says director Stacy Zevetchin “This uber talented cast is ready to entertain  the community with great dances, songs, and comedy.  They have been working non stop to present a truly fabulous show, that competes with the pros.”

The score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman showcases ’60s dance music and rhythm and blues selections. It includes the numbers “Good Morning, Baltimore,” “The Nicest Kids in Town” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”

Hairspray will open on August 4th with performances following on August 5, 11 and 12 at 7PM at the Flickinger Center. There will be a 2PM matinee on August 6. Tickets are currently available at the Flickinger Center, the Pizza Mill and Sub Factory or from any cast member.

WARMING UP FOR DAMN YANKEES FINAL WEEKEND!

The cast and crew of AMT’s spring production of Damn Yankees has geared up for another amazing weekend of productions at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts! The cast of the show has channeled the energy from opening weekend for two more nights of singing, dancing and all sorts of shenanigans. Production nights are Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th at 7PM. Tickets can be purchased at the Flickinger Center.

Based on the novel, The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop, Damn Yankees the Broadway mega-hit and winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, hits it out of the park! The winning score by Adler and Ross and a devilish book by George Abbot have made this sporty musical comedy a true American classic.

Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd (Loren Jackson), trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate (Randall Cutts), for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As transformed young phenom Joe Hardy (Zack Miller), he wows the world transforming the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, Joe begins to realize the real worth of the life he’s left behind. Colorful characters, smashing dance numbers and songs, including “Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets),” “You Gotta Have Heart” and “Those Were the Good Old Days,” are show highlights. Boasting more than 1,000 performances on Broadway, a successful film version and a popular Broadway revival, Damn Yankees has won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. “Damn Yankees” Rehearsals Going Strong!

Rehearsals have been amazing for AMT’s upcoming production of “Damn Yankees”! Opening April 21st at the Flickinger Center, the cast has been learning staging, singing and dancing for the spring show. Based on the novel, The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop, “Damn Yankees” the Broadway mega-hit and winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, hits it out of the park! The winning score by Adler and Ross and a devilish book by George Abbot have made this sporty musical comedy a true American classic.
