The Alamogordo Music Theatre is getting ready to take a trip on the wild side tonight with the wacky and witty Monty Python’s Spamalot! If you are a fan of the British comedy troupe Monty Python, this show is sure to tickle your funny bone.
Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical also diverts a bit from more traditional versions of the legend. Instead, Spamalot features shenanigans including a line of beautiful dancing girls, a flatulent Frenchmen and killer rabbits. Outside, there is plague with a 50% chance of pestilence and famine. Throughout the show, Arthur, traveling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest, including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad. Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight and the Knights who say Ni.
The original 2005 Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, won three Tony Awards, including the Tony Award for Best Musical of the 2004–2005 season and received 14 Tony Award nominations. During its initial run of over 1,500 performances it was seen by more than two million people and grossed over $175 million.
The AMT production features many local talents: Loren Jackson as King Arthur, Daniel Humm as Sir Robin and James White as Lancelot. In addition, many active duty members and spouses from Holloman AFB are featured: Jennifer Damon as the Lady of the Lake, Jacob Powers as Not Dead Fred/Prince Herbert and Michael Rodgers featured in the ensemble. The production is directed by Keith Dodson.
Monty Python’s Spamalot will opens tonight (11/11) at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts in Alamogordo and continue on November 12, 18 & 19 at 7PM. There will be a 2PM matinee of November 13th. All tickets are $10 at the Flickinger Center and the Pizza Mill & Sub Factory.
