The month of August has been extremely busy for the Alamogordo Music Theatre! We opened the patriotic musical “1776” on August 5th to our fantastic Alamogordo audiences. After a successful run, we wrapped the historical production on August 13th. One would think that after all blood, sweat and makeup that goes into orchestrating a production, a well deserved break would be in order.
That’s not the case with AMT! We are pleased to announce the upcoming auditions for the musical “Monty Python’s Spamalot”. Spamalot” tells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical also diverts a bit from more traditional versions of the legend. Instead, Spamalot features shennanigans including a line of beautiful dancing girls, a flatulent Frenchmen and killer rabbits. Outside, there is plague with a 50% chance of pestilence and famine. Throughout the show, Arthur, traveling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest, including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot and Sir Galahad. Besides the rabbits and farting Frenchman, they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight and the Knights who say Ni.
Auditions for “Spamalot” are August 22 & 24 at 7PM at the Flickinger Center. At the auditions, you are asked to sing a short selection (sixteen bars preferred) and read a short selection from the musical (provided by the casting committee). Musical accompaniment will be provided to you. We have a staff pianist at your disposal and a sound system for those with CD accompaniment. A list of roles and ranges for “Spamalot” can be found here.
We are excited about the next chapter in AMT’s fifty eight year history! We look forward to seeing you at the auditions!
