Rehearsals are going strong for the Alamogordo Music Theatre’s spring production of “Avenue Q”! The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
For practice and staging purposes the actors have been using socks to take the place of the puppets that the show is known for. All in all, the socks make for a challenging and sometimes hilarious rehearsal process. Right now this is Phase One with puppets, next will be the familiar hand puppets and the challenges of creating a character out of felt!
“Avenue Q” opens April 8th at the Flickinger Center for the Performing Arts. Performance Dates are April 8, 9, 10, 15 & 16.
