AVENUE Q AUDITIONS BEGIN TONIGHT!

AveQ_Detail_Main_Image_Detail Main ImageFor those of you who have been anticipating the next Alamogordo theatrical production to participate in, the wait is over! The Alamogordo Music Theatre is pleased to announce that auditions begin tonight (January 18th) for their spring musical “Avenue Q”!

The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned.

Auditions begin at 6:30 PM at the Flickinger Center. Please have a short selection ready to perform. We will have an accompanist on hand and a player for digital and CD tracks. In addition, we will ask you to read a short selection from the play with others auditioning. For tips on a successful audition, click here.

Auditions continue on January 20th at 6:30 PM. Attendance on both nights is not mandatory. The two dates have been set up for the convenience of the performers in our community.

We are seeking dynamic, talented and dedicated actors and actresses to fill all roles. Please remember, due to the hilarious adult humor, language and themes in Avenue Q, there are no roles for children.

Don’t miss out on this amazing production. We look forward to seeing you soon! Break a Leg!

Auditions for Avenue Q are just a week away and AMT is super excited about getting this tremendous show underway! Avenue Q is a groundbreaking show that combines Muppet-style creatures with human actors to create something adult, funny and very true to life. There are a broad range of ages, personalities and ethnicities that make up the tight ensemble of characters in Avenue Q. For a brief description of each of the roles, look below:

Auditions are January 18th & 20th at 6:30 PM at the Flickinger Center.

BRIAN – A laid-back guy married to Christmas Eve. Late 20s to early 30s. B2 – F#4 – Baritone

KATE MONSTER – A Kindergarten teaching assistant, a bit older than Princeton. Mid 20s. F#3 – F5 – Soprano/ High Alto

LUCY – A boa-wearing nightclub singer who likes to seduce young guys like Princeton. Mid 20s to mid 30s. F3 – F5 – Alto (Belting)

PRINCETON – A fresh-faced kid just out of college. Bb2 – G4 – Baritenor

ROD – A Republican investment banker (resembles Bert from Sesame Street) who lives with Nicky. Rod is struggling with being gay and comes out over the course of the show. Mid 20s to early 30s. A2 – G4 – Baritenor

THE BAD IDEA BEARS – Two little bears who like to come out and convince good people to do bad bad things…in a snuggly way. 1 female voice (Mezzo) and 1 male voice (Baritone)

TREKKIE MONSTER – (Not to be confused with Cookie Monster, although the vocal resemblance is uncanny)- a monster who lives in the building on Avenue Q is very obsessed with using the internet for naughty things! Bb2 – Eb4 – Baritone
